The Queen of Wands is a card about about taking up the space you deserve, and knowing just how magical you truly are.

To give you a bit of context whilst you reflect on your own relationship to the card, here are a few key things to know about the Queen of Wands:

In the Tarot, Queens are symbols of an internal mastery of the element which the suit represents. Which means the Queen of Wands represents a sense of inner confidence when it comes to your spiritual, creative, and passionate pursuits. In other words, this is a card about knowing what you want and believing that you not only have a right to pursue it, but you have a right to get it.

In the Rider Waite Smith version of the card, the Queen of Wands sits on a throne, adorned in bold colors, with legs spread beneath their robe - one can’t help but think of “manspreading” here - and there’s something about seeing a feminine figure taking up as much space as they likes that feels subversive, powerful, surprising.

In their right hand the Queen holds a wand like a royal sceptre. There’s a natural relaxation to the grip - this figure is comfortable in their power. In their left hand, they hold a sunflower - a plant that symbolises laws of attraction. Allow yourself to shine as beautifully and brilliantly as you can, and the flower will naturally turn to face you.

Cats are a prominent theme in this card - lions decorate the back and sides of the Queen’s throne, and a black cat sits at the figure’s feet. Cats are independent creatures that are rarely shy about claiming what they believe they deserve, and they always expect respect and spoils. That fierce, self-assured attitude sums up the Queen of Wands’ energy.

In your tarot journal, you’re asked to reflect on what this card means to you, now, in this moment, and what actions and thoughts it inspires in you. As you journal, pay attention to what you’re personally picking up in the card, but also consider what the key themes and symbols in the card might be telling you. Where would you like to take up more space? What respect and spoils do you deserve? How can you feel more comfortable basking in your own glory?
